Log Rolling and Boom Running Equipment

If you're going to be a log roller, it has to take the right equipment. Whether it's logs, spikes, shoes, or any other needed equipment, Lumberjack Water Sports will help you out.

Log Rolling Logs

There are various people around the country claiming to sell log rolling logs. Unfortunately, many are overpriced, or are too far away from the buyer's location to be a feasible purchase. What is a person to do? The best way I have found is to simply find a company that turns logs on a lathe. All log rolling logs are Western Red or Western White Cedar. Do NOT use pine, as it will absorb water within 2 days of rolling and become too heavy to even move. Check around your local region for log home builders. Many have their own lathes, and are willing to turn a log or two for a fee. Cedar can be hard to find, once again check with your local log home builder. They may have sources they are already in contact with.

We apologize for not having a main source of logs. If one becomes available that is at a reasonable price, we will post it here.

Spikes

Log rolling spikes are custom made shoes that are built specifically for log rolling. A few individuals are currently organizing to start making log rolling spikes. To order your own spikes to make your own (tutorial coming soon), contact White's Boots. The shoes are non-leather soccer shoes with the bottoms ground flat and thin. I will post

Shoes

Most rollers do not roll in spikes during practice due to the high wear on logs. The most common shoes used in practice are simple, and very affordable deck/dock shoes. They can be purchased very cheaply (usually under $10). They are usually slip on shoes with a soft rubber bottom. The softer the better, as a hard rubber bottom will not grip well. These shoes can be purchased at almost any discount store during the summer months. To learn more about them, visit our log rolling footwear tutorial.

Misc. Equipment

Spike Wrenches are used to tighten and screw in log rolling spikes. Fortunately they can be purchased almost anywhere. Discount stores, and almost all sports stores carry them. They are simply a golf spike wrench, and usually cost around 4 or 5 dollars. They look like this.
